Oskar Söderström founded Oskars Surströmming in 1955. He created the first barrel of fermented herring the same year. Oskar was not satisfied with the outcome at first. He did not give up; instead, he gradually refined the product. Soon he reached perfection, and his surströmming was ready to be launched onto the market. In 1966 the first can came with the name Oskars. Whole surströmming has fish roe; many consider the fish roe to be a delicacy. The product contains 5-7 whole fermented herrings and has a net weight of 300g.
